In a recent interview with Football Insider, transfer insider Mick Brown mentioned that Newcastle United could cash in on Harvey Barnes. Brown said,
“They’ve got Barnes who they could cash in on.
“It’s an interesting one because they’ve had their issues with PSR and in terms of buying anybody, so they need to sell somebody.
“Well, the main people they can sell are their star players, and they don’t want to do that.
“Barnes seems to have an impact when he plays, but then he’ll be benched or taken off.
“I’ve heard there a plenty of people keeping an eye on his situation after the way he’s started the season and I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody makes a move.
“They’ll look at it and think they could raise some money from his sale if someone comes in.
“Then, they’re looking at getting Leroy Sane on a free, so to get money for Barnes and then get Sane as his replacement is certainly a possibility.“
Barnes’ Impressive Form At Newcastle United
Barnes has already put in a handful of impressive displays for the Magpies in the final third. The 26-year-old has registered three goals and secured one assist in nine matches for Newcastle this season in all competitions.
The English talent has been a decent contributor on the left flank by averaging 2.0 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after making 87% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Can Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Afford To Lose Barnes?
Barnes is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with the ball on the left wing. He has got the vision to engineer some promising chances for his teammates in the final third and can strike the ball with venom from long range.
The English talent can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. He is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also play in the number ten position if asked to do so by his manager.
Barnes remains one of the first names in Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s teamsheet. Therefore, the Magpies simply cannot afford to lose a player of his quality unless they receive an astronomical fee for his services.
