In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed that Newcastle United could cash in on Callum Wilson this January. It has been stated that the Magpies are eager to sell the English forward when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year.
Wilson’s Impressive Form In The Premier League
Wilson enjoyed a decent campaign at the Tyneside club recently as he managed to put in a string of fruitful displays for them in the final third. The English attacker was involved in 26 matches for the Magpies last season, finding the back of the net ten times and earning one assist in various competitions.
The 32-year-old made most of his appearances off the bench but did well to average 1.8 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League. However, he was sloppy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after completing just 65.2% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Wilson’s current deal at St. James’ Park will expire at the end of this campaign. Hence, the Magpies would have no choice but to cash in on him this January or else risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Let Wilson Leave?
Wilson is proficient at finding some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can be a streaky goal-scorer in the final third and has got the vision to create the odd chance for others around him on the offensive end of the field. The English talent is also quite clever with his movements in and around the opposition’s penalty area but needs to find a way to improve his link-up play up top.
The Coventry-born sensation is currently surplus to requirements at Newcastle United as he has fallen behind Alexander Isak and William Osula in Eddie Howe’s pecking order. Furthermore, Wilson is on an expiring contract at St. James’ Park.
Therefore, it makes sense for the Tyneside giants to let the English forward in search of greener pastures in this winter transfer period as Howe could use the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a suitable replacement this January.
