In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus revealed that Newcastle United are monitoring the progress of Leicester City defender Wout Faes. It has been mentioned that the Magpies are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the Belgian centre-half next year.
Faes’ Decent Run Of Form In The Premier League This Season
Faes has enjoyed a solid campaign in the Premier League so far after he put in a few dominant performances at the heart of the Leicester backline. The 26-year-old has scored one goal in eight matches for the Foxes this season in multiple competitions.
The Belgian talent has been in fine form for the East Midlands club on the defensive third of the pitch as he is averaging 0.9 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 7.0 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing possession from the back based on his pass completion rate of 87% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Faes is under contract at the King Power Stadium until the summer of 2027. Thus, Newcastle would have to launch a big offer if they want to convince Leicester to part ways with their prized asset next year.
Is Faes A Good Fit For Newcastle United Head Coach Eddie Howe?
Faes loves a tackle and can sense the danger quickly to make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and can play his way out from the back.
The Belgian sensation can use his strong 1.87m to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his side. He has got some experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Newcastle United.
Faes would bring more bite and steel to Eddie Howe’s defence and could help the Magpies compete across all fronts in the coming years. At 26, he has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a great fit for the Tyneside club‘s needs next year.
Faes would no doubt increase competition for places within Howe’s match-day squad. Therefore, Newcastle should focus on going all out to lure Faes to St. James’ Park this winter or at the end of this campaign.
