In a recent report, Fichajes revealed that Newcastle United are locked in a battle for Botafogo forward Igor Jesus. It has been stated that the Magpies would have to rival Arsenal and Chelsea in the race to sign the Brazilian striker.
Jesus’ Impressive Rise In Brazilian Football
The 23-year-old has managed to catch the eye with his performances for Botafogo recently as he has put in a run of fruitful displays for them in the final third. Jesus has scored seven goals and grabbed one assist in 19 matches for the Brazilian outfit so far in multiple competitions.
The Brazilian talent has proven his worth in front of the opposition goal by averaging 2.2 shots and 1.1 key passes per game in the Brasileirao. He has also been careful when distributing the ball after making 75.4% of his attempted passes in the Brazilian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Brazilian club will expire at the end of 2027 which could make it difficult for Newcastle to sign him on the cheap next year.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Move In For Jesus?
Jesus can find some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create a few promising chances for his teammates on the offensive end of the pitch and can chip in by scoring and creating some important goals for his team.
The Brazilian sensation is primarily a centre-forward but can also function as a left-sided wide player if told to do so. However, he might some time to adapt to the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League if the Magpies manage to snap him up next year.
Jesus would enhance the quality of Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s frontline. He has what it takes to offer some serious competition for Alexander Isak at the Tyneside club. At 23, Jesus has his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for Newcastle to consider in 2025. With all things considered, Howe would be wise to move in for him as he could prove to be a success story at St. James’ Park in the long run.
