In a recent report, The Northern Echo mentioned that Newcastle United are hoping to land Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi this January. It is believed that the Magpies are eyeing a move to secure the services of the English centre-back in the winter transfer period.
Guehi’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Premier League
Guehi has made a solid start to this campaign as he has put in a few dominant displays for the Eagles on the defensive end of the field. The 24-year-old has found the back of the net once in nine appearances for Crystal Palace this season in multiple competitions.
The English sensation has been a good performer when defending inside his half based on his average of 0.9 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 6.6 clearances per game in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the back after completing 85.7% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Selhurst Park will expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Magpies to strike a deal on the cheap for him this January.
Will Guehi Be A Dream Signing For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Guehi is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.
The English central defender can even play his way out from the back. He has already got some experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to adapt to life at Newcastle United.
Guehi would undoubtedly enhance the quality of Eddie Howe’s backline. He is more than capable of securing a first-team spot at the Tyneside club. At 24, Guehi has his best years ahead of him which makes him a dream signing for the Magpies to pull off in this January transfer window.
The English talent is good enough to help the Tyneside club challenge for a top-four spot in the Premier League in the future. Thus, Howe should consider trying everything in his power to lure him to St. James’ Park this winter.
