As per a report published by TEAMtalk, Manchester United are impressed with Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle’s progress. The Premier League club could even make a move to bring the youngster to Old Trafford next year.
Sam Tickle is a promising talent
Sam Tickle is the latest bright prospect to come out of English football. He has been part of Wigan Athletic since 2012 and worked hard over the years to climb up the ladders. Before the commencement of last season, he was allotted the primary goalkeeping role by manager Shaun Maloney.
Tickle made an impressive debut season in which he managed to keep 18 clean sheets in 52 outings. He conceded 60 goals in the process. He was also awarded Wigan’s Player of the Year for his significant contributions.
The English goalkeeper has shown promising signs in the early stages of his career at the professional level. He has quick reflexes, and long reach, and collects the deliveries well. He is also excellent with his distributions and helps build attacks from the back.
A fill for Altay Bayindir?
Manchester United already have Andre Onana as their first-choice goalkeeper. Though he faced heavy criticism during his initial days, he has managed to change his sentiments in recent weeks. He has been United’s one of the best performers over the past month.
However, the future of Altay Bayindir remains uncertain at Old Trafford. Hence, the Red Devils are expected to go into the market for a goalkeeper. In that aspect, Sam Tickle could be a good choice considering his qualities and huge potential. They can groom the shot-stopper and prepare him for a long-term project.
However, a few clubs including Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the 22-year-old. On the other hand, Manchester United are also linked with Anthony Patterson.
