According to Inter Live, Manchester United have a solid interest in signing Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram next summer. The Premier League club are even ready to trigger his €85m release clause to acquire his services.
Marcus Thuram is doing excellently well
Marcus Thuram arrived at Inter Milan last summer as a free agent. While everyone had low expectations of him, he took everyone by surprise. Since his joining, he has emerged as a key member of the squad, featuring regularly.
Thuram appeared in 46 games last season in which he netted 15 goals and provided 14 assists. He averaged 2.2 shots, 0.8 key passes, and 0.7 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The French striker is an intelligent player who also links up well with his teammates. He possesses dribbling skills and provides clinical finishes around the penalty box. He is also a dominant figure in air, making him an all-out threat for the opposition.
Marcus Thuram can only be a long-term solution
Manchester United brought Joshua Zirkzee this summer to strengthen the striker position as the presence of Rasmus Højlund wasn’t enough. However, the former has failed to impress so far and the club might even think of offloading him.
Hence, the Red Devils are exploring options in the market and Marcus Thuram has emerged as one of the viable names. His impressive run in recent times and ample experience would be a great addition. He provides a different set of qualities compared to strikers the English giants currently have.
To lure away the 27-year-old, Manchester United will have to splash out €85m. While they have the financial strength to pull it off, the price seems unrealistically high. As Thuram can only be a short-term solution, it makes no sense to invest such a high amount in him. Instead, the club can invest in other areas to build a strong squad.
