According to a report from Fichajes, Premier League club Manchester City are interested in signing Villarreal‘s young sensation Alex Baena in the 2025 summer transfer window as they look to reinforce their attacking unit.
The rising stakes of Alex Baena
Coming through the Villarreal Academy, Alex Baena made his senior team debut in 2020. However, it took some time before he could prove himself and emerge as an asset to the side. His impressive loan spell at Girona somewhere helped him in attracting eyeballs.
Baena was brilliant individually last season despite Villarreal couldn’t do much as a unit. He netted five goals and provided 18 assists in 45 games. He averaged 2.1 shots, 2.5 key passes, and 0.8 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Spanish is versatile to play on either wing or behind the striker. He constantly creates threats in the final third with his crosses, and key passes and even takes good free-kicks. Off the ball, he works hard to provide solidity to his team.
Alex Baena will fit in well at Etihad Stadium
Manchester City will be going through a transition period soon as many of their players are about to leave. The club will be targeting some notable names as well as exciting talents. Hence, their interest in Alex Baena is understandable.
Baena’s rise at the club level as well as at the international stage cannot be ignored. He is putting his best foot forward and is bound to have a great future. His versatility and qualities in the final third aren’t found in every other footballer.
Hence, it makes sense for the Citizens to go after him next summer. He can add a lot of value and improve under the guidance of Pep Guardiola. Though Villarreal would want to hold the hot property, they will be tempted if a lucrative offer arrives. The Spanish club rates the talent at €65m but the English giants will try to negotiate and bring the price within a reasonable range.
