As per a report published by Fichajes, Manchester City have identified Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres as a potential target as the long-term future of Erling Haaland at the Etihad Stadium has come under the radar in recent weeks.
Viktor Gyokeres is one of the best strikers at present
Viktor Gyokeres has been breathing fire ever since landing at Sporting CP last summer. He immediately adapted in new conditions and started delivering the goods. He emerged as one of the best players in Liga Portugal in a short time.
Gyokeres helped the Portuguese side win the domestic title last season by netting 43 goals in just 50 games. He also had 15 assists to his name in the process. He averaged 3.5 shots, 1.6 key passes, and 2.1 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Swedish striker is physicality strong, possesses sheer pace, and is lethal in front of the goal. He is also good at holding the ball, dribbling, and making key passes. With high-rate work and intense pressing, he helps the team in gaining possession.
Will Erling Haaland entertain a new challenge?
Reports have emerged in recent times that Erling Haaland is not looking to stay at Manchester City for a long time. It stated that the striker is willing to accept a new challenge soon as he has already achieved a lot at the Etihad Stadium in a short period.
With that being said, the Citizens are a bit worried and possibly even scouting a replacement. One of the top names that have emerged is Viktor Gyokeres.
The interest in Gyokeres is understandable considering his extraordinary run in the Portugal league. With him continuing his red-hot form this season as well, a European move must be on the cards. Apart from Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea are keeping tabs on the 26-year-old.
