According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester City are in the race for AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez. The Premier League club want to sign the left-back next year to have enough depth and quality in their squad for the concerned position.
Theo Hernandez is a well-established name
Theo Hernandez is considered one of the best-left full-backs in the world at present. He represented the likes of Atletico Madrid, Alaves and Real Madrid prior to arriving at AC Milan in the summer of 2019. However, his best came at the Italian club in recent years.
Hernandez featured in 46 games last season, netting five goals and assisting 11. He averaged 1.8 shots, 1.4 key passes, and 1.2 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The French left-back is widely known for his attacking abilities. With an aggressive mindset, dribbling, pace, and passing techniques, he is impactful going higher on the pitch. However, he is often caught off guard when it comes to defending.
Theo Hernandez could be a risky bet
Manchester City’s interest in Theo Hernandez is understandable as they don’t have a recognized left-back. Though Josko Gvardiol has settled in well, an injury to him can cause a lot of harm. Nathan Ake is another option that can be used as the left-back but that’s not an ideal situation.
Hence, the Citizens want to sign the French defender to cover the position well. Hernandez’s experience and attacking traits could be extremely useful. However, his defensive vulnerability can prove to be costly sometimes.
Manchester City will face stiff competition from the likes of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-German (PSG). The English giant are also linked with Sergio Gomez. On the other hand, Alphonso Davies can also be a lucrative deal considering he will become a free agent next summer.
