As reported by Fichajes, Liverpool are one of the clubs that are keen on signing RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba next summer. The Premier League club believe he could be a good reinforcement in the defensive unit for next season.
Castello Lukeba is climbing up the ladders slowly
Castello Lukeba came into the limelight during his days at Lyon. Impressed by his performances and to replace Josko Gvardio, RB Leipzig decided to sign him last summer. The move turned out well for all the parties as the player adapted well.
Lukeba showed solid performances at the backline and became a mainstay immediately. He featured in 41 games last season and had a goal to his name. He averaged 0.6 tackles, 0.4 interceptions, and 2.9 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The French centre-back is versatile to adapt to different styles of play. He has a good pace, focuses on his positioning and is a good tackler. His ball-playing ability is also excellent, allowing the team to build attacks from the back.
Arne Slot wants Castello Lukeba
Having brought only two players in the summer, Liverpool’s new boss Arne Slot is likely to bring his players as per his preference in the upcoming transfer windows. One of the areas that he wants to strengthen going forward is the backline.
Slot believes Castello Lukeba could be a good addition to the unit. The player has already done the job effectively and can be a long-term asset. His versatility, intelligence, and pace will add a lot of value to the unit.
The Reds even enquired about the defender but RB Leipzig turned it down as they weren’t keen on selling him. However, the situation has changed and the German club are ready to offload him to book profits. As per reports, they want around €60m to sanction the move.
