As per a report published by Fichajes, Premier League club Liverpool have identified Monaco defender Vanderson as one of the possible names to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose future at Anfield remains under the radar.
Vanderson has been solid for Monaco
Vanderson came through the ranks of Gremio and went on to sign for Monaco in the January window of 2022. In a year and a half, he has gone from strength to strength. His impactful rise has also attracted attention from major European clubs.
Vanderson made an appearance in 23 games last season, netting thrice and assisting once. He averaged 3 tackles, 1.8 interceptions, and 1.8 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The Brazilian right-back likes to stay higher on the pitch and showcase his offensive traits. He puts good crosses into the box and also exploits the spaces well. He is aggressive in shooting apart from providing defensive solidity.
Liverpool hoping to keep Trent Alexander-Arnold
Liverpool are sweating over the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold beyond this season. The right-back’s contract expires at the end of the season and there has been no extension yet. Losing an established player like him will be too costly too.
Though there have been positive signs of a contract extension between the two sides, nothing can be considered done until done. Hence, the Reds want to remain prepared by having possible replacements in mind in case the situation arises.
The latest name to get added to the list is Vanderson, whose rise has been solid in recent times. He has shown good qualities for Monaco and a move to a bigger club should be on the cards. He has similar attacking traits to the English right-back and can be a like-to-like long-term replacement.
The French club reportedly rate him at €40 million but Liverpool might be able to negotiate further as no other club shows great interest.
