According to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, Liverpool have shown interest in signing Fiorentina’s Michael Kayode in the January transfer window. However, a lot will depend upon the contract extension talks with Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Who is Michael Kayode?
Michael Kayode started his professional career with Juventus but he failed to establish himself there. As a result, he moved to Fiorentina, which helped him achieve new heights. He became a mainstay in the squad, starting regularly.
However, things haven’t gone as planned for Kayode as he has got limited game-time this season. He has got to feature only in five games so far, resulting near to 160 minutes. Comparing it to last season’s 37 games and 2900 minutes, his diminishing role is evident.
The Italian defender can operate on both wings as the full-back and can adapt to different styles of play. He has good physicality, technical skills, and pace. He intercepts the threats well and tries to position himself close to the attackers.
Michael Kayode can be a good long-term investment
Liverpool’s interest in Michael Kayode is understandable as the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold remains uncertain. The latter is in the final year of his contract and has ample interest from major European clubs. If he doesn’t renew the contract, the club will have to bring in a notable replacement.
Though Kayode isn’t an ideal replacement for the English international, he can be a good acquisition for the long term. He has the ability to do well in the English league and can be transformed into an elite player. However, it will depend a lot on how he develops his game further.
The 20-year-old can also be a full-back on both sides or even operate as a centre-back. His versatility will be enjoyed by Arne Slot surely. Apart from Liverpool, the player also has interest coming in from the likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.
