According to Football Insider, Caoimhin Kelleher has expressed his strong wish to leave Anfield in search of a regular first-team appearance. To which Liverpool has agreed to let him go at their terms in the next summer transfer window.
Caoimhin Kelleher has done well for Liverpool
Caoimhin Kelleher came through the ranks of Liverpool Academy and made his name, backed by consistently impressive performances. Though he hasn’t been the primary goalkeeper, he has been part of crucial games in last few seasons.
Kelleher got to feature in 26 games last season in which he kept five clean sheets while leaking 32 goals. He has already taken the charge to lineup in between the sticks as Alisson Becker is injured and will remain sidelined until the next international break.
The Irish goalkeeper has strong hands and quick reflexes which help him stop shots from all ranges. He is extremely calm under pressure and very comfortable on the ball. His distribution skills are also top-notch and an asset for the team.
Giorgi Mamardashvili will arrive next summer
Caoimhin Kelleher wanted to leave this summer but Liverpool didn’t want to let him go despite having a substantial number of buyers. However, things have changed now with the club ready to offload him next summer.
The Reds have already signed Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in a pre-agreed deal and he will arrive at Anfield before the next season. So the club are well-positioned to cover the goalkeeping position and can sell Kelleher.
As the 25-year-old’s contract runs until 2025, Liverpool will have the power to negotiate pricing. A move away will surely help Kelleher to be a primary goalkeeper elsewhere and script a legacy for himself. He has all the qualities to succeed at a top-tier club for a long time.
