In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey revealed that Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi wants to join Real Madrid. It is understood that the Spain international has his heart set on a move to the Madrid club next year.
Zubimendi’s Impressive Form In La Liga This Season
The 25-year-old has made a solid start to this campaign as he has put in a series of dominant displays for Real Sociedad in the middle of the park. Zubimendi has featured in nine matches for the Spanish club this season, scoring one goal on all fronts.
The Spain international has anchored the midfield with conviction based on his average of 2.3 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 2.4 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after making 85.8% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Spanish club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Real Madrid to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on a cut-price deal next year.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Bring Him On Board?
Zubimendi is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy passer as well.
The Spanish talent is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so. He already knows La Liga well and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Real Madrid if Carlo Ancelotti can devise a way to snap him up next year.
At 25, Zubimendi has his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent option for Los Blancos to consider this January or at the end of this season. He would undoubtedly add more bite and steel to Carlo Ancelotti’s midfield.
Zubimendi is more than capable of challenging for a regular first-team spot at the Madrid club. Thus, Ancelotti would be wise to bring him on board soon as he would help Los Blancos challenge for some major trophies over the next few years.
