In a recent report, journalist Mark Marston revealed that Everton could reignite their interest in Leeds United ace Wilfried Gnonto. It has been stated that the Toffees could move in for the Italian wing wizard in the winter transfer window.
Gnonto’s Impressive Form At Elland Road This Season
Gnonto has made a promising start to this campaign as he has already put in some impressive displays for the Whites in the final third. The Italian talent has scored two goals and grabbed one assist in eight matches for the Yorkshire club this season across all competitions.
The 20-year-old has been a reliable performer on the right wing based on his average of 2.4 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship. He was even accurate when distributing the ball in the final third after making 85.8% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Leeds United will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for the Toffees to get a deal done for him on the cheap next year.
Is Gnonto A Good Option For Everton Boss Sean Dyche?
Gnonto has got the pace to get in behind the opponent’s backline and can make some driving runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for his teammates to find the back of the net.
The Italian sensation mainly operates on the right wing but can also serve as a left-sided wide player or as a striker if told to do so. However, there are some question marks over whether he can maintain his good form in top-flight football if Everton manage to snap him up this January.
Gnonto would bring more quality to Sean Dyche’s frontline and could help the Toffees compete for a top-half finish in the Premier League this season. At 20, he has got a bright future ahead of him which makes him a decent option for the Merseyside club to pursue in the long run. Thus, Dyche would be wise to try everything in his power to sign him this winter.
