In a recent report, The Mirror mentioned that Everton are locked in a three-way battle for Steaua Bucharest defender Joyskim Dawa. It has been stated that the Toffees are facing competition in the form of Leeds United and Fulham in the race to land the Cameroonian centre-back.
Dawa’s Impressive Form In European Football
Dawa has made a decent start to this campaign after putting in a run of impressive performances at the centre of Steaua Bucharest’s defence. The Cameroonian talent has participated in 18 matches for the Romanian outfit this season, scoring three goals in various competitions.
The 28-year-old has enjoyed a good run of form in Europe as he is averaging 2.5 tackles, 2.0 interceptions and 7.0 clearances per 90 minutes in the UEFA Europa League. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from inside his half based on his pass completion rate of 89.5% in European football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Romanian club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Everton to land him on a cut-price deal next year.
What Will Dawa Bring To Everton?
Dawa is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the front foot.
Standing at 1.94m, the Cameroonian sensation can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, there are some question marks over whether he would be able to cope with the high intensity of Premier League football if Everton manage to get a deal over the line for him in 2025.
Dawa would bring more quality and depth to Sean Dyche’s defensive department. He might even help the Toffees challenge for a top-half finish in the Premier League. At 28, Dawa is playing at the peak of his career which makes him a decent choice for the Merseyside club to consider this January or next summer. However, Dyche has to give him some time to adjust to life at Goodison Park before he can get the best out of him.
