Aston Villa will entertain Crystal Palace at Villa Park this Wednesday night as they look to earn a positive result on the road in the EFL Cup. The Villans were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth recently, so they would be eager to return to winning ways in midweek.
Unai Emery will set his men up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to make a lot of changes to his first XI for this game. Jhon Duran could get a chance to lead the line for the West Midlands club up top.
4-2-3-1 Aston Villa Predicted Lineup To Face Crystal Palace
Defence
Joe Gauci will function in goal for the Villans as he hopes to keep things solid at the back this Wednesday night. Lamare Bogarde will operate alongside Sil Swinkels at the centre of the Aston Villa backline as they try to keep the opposition attackers quiet during the 90 minutes.
Kosta Nedeljković will fill in as the right-back while Ian Maatsen hopes to prove his worth on the other flank as the left-back. Both of them will have to pick and choose their moments to join in on the attack.
Ezri Konsa and Pau Torres will be rested on the bench as they offer cover for the defensive positions.
Midfield
Ross Barkley and Amadou Onana will play as the holding midfielders as they look to dominate possession and offer some decent service to the front players. The hard-working trio of Jacob Ramsey, Emi Buendia and Leon Bailey will function just ahead of them as part of the Aston Villa attack. All three of them need to move the ball well in the Crystal Palace half if they want to orchestrate some inviting chances for Jhon Duran up top.
Youri Tielemans and John McGinn will make up the numbers on Emery’s bench and might come on to influence the game in the second 45 minutes if required.
Attack
Jhon Duran will spearhead Aston Villa’s attack in the final third. He has to figure out a way to be a real threat in front of the opponent’s goal.
Ollie Watkins will get a well-deserved rest on the bench as he waits for his chance to make an impact in the latter stages of the game if needed.
