As per a report published by Fichajes, Chelsea are keen on signing Benfica duo Antonio Silva and Tomas Araujo. The Premier League club are considering offering 100 million euros in order to bring the youngsters to Stamford Bridge. However, they might face stiff competition from multiple European clubs.
Antonio Silva is already established
Antonio Silva is one of the highly-rated talents to come out of Benfica Academy in recent years. He made his debut in the 2022-23 season and has been a mainstay since then. In a short time, he has cemented his position in the starting XI.
Silva featured in 50 games last season in which he netted two goals. He averaged 2.1 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, and 0.6 clearances per game (stats via whoscored). His contributions were immense in helping Benfica finish second in the league title.
The Portuguese is a physically strong hard tackling defender, who is comfortable with the ball on both feet. He is an intelligent reader of the game and anticipates the threats well. He shows a high work rate and also has leadership skills at a young age.
Tomas Araujo is on the right track
Tomas Araujo is another promising product of Benfica academy but unlike Antonio Silva, he has not cemented his spot yet. But he is on the right path and is making good progress day by day. His status in the squad is growing and he is bound to have a bright future.
Araujo participated in 20 games last season, finding the back of the net once. He averaged 0.9 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, and 0.6 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The Portuguese plays as the right-back and is extremely fast and dangerous in transitions. He has good dribbling and high ball retention abilities. He is also a dominant figure in aerial duels and makes timely strong tackles. Unfortunately, Araujo hasn’t made his international debut yet but Chelsea would be least concerning about that fact.
