According to TBR, Chelsea are impressed with Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie’s progress. The Premier League club are considering making an official bid to sign him in the January window to improve their left side of the defence.

After plying his trade at multiple clubs, Piero Hincapie signed for Bayer Leverkusen in the summer window of 2021. He managed to impress everyone in the early sights with his performances. As a result, he emerged as one of the automatic picks in the squad.
Hincapie played a vital role in the German side’s success last season. He featured in 43 games and contributed to two goals directly. He averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, and 2.4 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The Ecuador international is versatile to play as a left-back or a centre-back. He is aggressive in nature and likes to go forward to put pressure on the opposition or contribute to the offensive front. He is also great at passing and sending crosses into the box.
Piero Hincapie could be a good signing
Though Chelsea spent a high sum in the summer transfer window, they made little effort to improve the backline. The signing of free agent Tosin Adarabioyo was the only defensive signing they made. Hence, it’s understandable that the club are looking to strengthen that area in the upcoming windows.
The Blues have got off to a good start under new boss Enzo Maresca. However, they still lack quality on the left side of the defence. The club are ready to let go of Benoit Badiashile while the future of Marc Cucurella is under the radar.
