Despite attempts, Chelsea failed to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer. However, the Premier League club are now considering making a €75 million bid to sign the Nigerian star in the January window, according to Defensa Central.
Victor Osimhen’s relations with Napoli are broken
Victor Osimhen is one of the most highly-rated strikers in the world at present. His career shifted to new heights when he joined Napoli from Lille in 2020. He became a mainstay and a key contributor to the club’s success over the past few seasons.
The Nigerian striker is well known for his pace, high work rate, and clinicalness in front of the goal. He also marks an aerial domination, getting a header out of nowhere. Though he sometimes falls into the trap of offside, he remains a threat to the opponents constantly.
Osimhen netted 17 goals and provided four assists in 32 games last season. He averaged 3.6 shots, 0.9 key passes, and 0.6 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored). However, things started to fall recently between both parties.
Victor Osimhen will add goals for sure
Chelsea were heavily linked with Victor Osimhen this summer but they failed to materialize a deal. The high demands of Napoli as well as the striker were considered unreasonable and hence, the negotiations never transformed into a real deal.
Later on, Osimhen was sent on a loan spell to Galatasaray S.K. as the Italian club didn’t want to keep him. The current situation shows the Blues have a good chance of signing him. Napoli have drastically reduced their demands and reportedly a €75 million bid should be enough.
The 25-year-old’s signing would be a big boost for Enzo Maresca‘s side. Keeping all his controversies on one side, the striker is still lethal and one of the best in the world. It wouldn’t be unfair to say that it will be an upgrade from Nicolas Jackson.
