As per a report published by Fichajes, Chelsea are keeping tabs on Getafe youngster Christantus Uche. The Premier League club are impressed with this display and might attempt to sign him if he continues to develop his game.
The interesting case of Christantus Uche
Christantus Uche was playing for Spanish third-division side Ceuta when Getafe scouted him. They signed him in the January window this year, which has changed the player’s fortunes. Since arriving at his new home, the footballer has taken his game to a whole new level.
Uche was playing as a midfielder till the last season but boss Jose Bordalas has started using him as a number nine from this campaign. While the player has netted only one goal in 10 games, he certainly has the potential to do much better.
The Nigerian player is versatile to play in the middle of the park as a defensive choice or in attacking positions. He is an excellent dribbler complimented well by his goal-scoring abilities. However, he still needs more time to adapt to his new profile.
Chelsea can use Christantus Uche’s versatility
Chelsea were linked to multiple strikers this summer as they wanted to bring in a replacement for Nicolas Jackson. However, no deal went through and they had to settle without a new striker. Luckily, Jackson has been showing signs of improvement and has been in decent form.
While the Blues continue to aim for a high-profile striker, they might not mind signing someone who can play as second fiddle. In that sense, Christantus Uche can be a handy choice as he has proved that he can do well as a number nine too.
However, it will highly depend on how the 21-year-old plays in the remainder of the season. The player has a €20 million release clause, which is a not big deal for Chelsea to trigger.
