In a recent report, Relevo claimed that Barcelona have identified Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey as a target. It has been stated that the Catalan club are eyeing a move to land the Ghana international on a free transfer next summer.
Partey’s Impressive Form In The Premier League
Partey has enjoyed a good run of form at the North London club this season after putting in a handful of solid displays at the centre of Mikel Arteta’s midfield. The 31-year-old has made nine appearances for Arsenal during this campaign, scoring one goal across all fronts.
The Ghanaian midfield ace has proven his worth at the centre of the park by averaging 2.9 tackles, 1.6 interceptions, 2.0 clearances, 0.7 shots and 0.7 key passes per game in Premier League football. He has also been accurate when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 88.4% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Emirates Stadium will run out at the end of 2025 which could open the door for Barcelona to sign him on a free transfer next summer.
What Will Partey Bring To Barcelona?
Partey is a tough-tackling midfielder who can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can strike the ball with power from long range. Standing at 1.85m, Partey is a strong presence in the air.
The Ghana international can even create the odd chance for his teammates in the opponent’s half. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-back if told to do so.
We can expect Partey to bring more bite and steel to Barcelona boss Hansi Flick’s midfield. He has what it takes to compete for a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp in the coming years.
At 31, Partey might still have a few good years left in him to play at his best. He is good enough to help the Catalan club compete across all competitions in the future. Furthermore, he is currently on an expiring contract at Arsenal which makes him a great, affordable option for Barca to pursue at the end of this campaign.
