In a recent report, journalist Steve Kay claimed that Barcelona have been offered a chance to recruit Chelsea defender Reece James. It is believed that the Catalan club have been given an opportunity to sign the English full-back.
James’ Injury Concerns At Chelsea Recently
James has missed a lot of games for the Blues recently due to injuries. Still, he has got a great record at the West London club after scoring 11 goals and picking up 22 assists in 158 appearances for them so far across all competitions.
The English talent has already proven himself to be a consistent performer in the Premier League. However, frequent injuries have hampered his Chelsea career which could open the door for Barcelona to get him on board next year.
His current deal at Stamford Bridge will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, the Catalan club would have to make a big offer if they want to recruit him.
Should Barcelona Head Coach Hansi Flick Snap James Up?
James loves a tackle and can make some timely interceptions at the back when he is playing well on the field. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can deliver some inviting crosses into the opponent’s penalty area.
The English talent can strike the ball with power and precision from long range and is a good dribbler as well. However, he has to overcome his recent injury concerns which makes him a risky option for Barcelona to consider in 2025.
James would no doubt add more quality to Barca boss Hansi Flick’s defence. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting place at the Nou Camp in the coming years. However, only time will tell whether James can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if the Catalan club manage to bring him on board this January or at the end of this campaign.
At 24, James has still got plenty of time to turn his career around for the better. Thus, Barcelona should consider taking a gamble on him next year. At the very least, James could help the Catalan giants compete across all fronts in the future. All in all, Barca would be wise to snap the English full-back up soon.
