In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Barcelona are locked in a three-way battle for Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran. It has been stated that the Catalan club are facing competition in the form of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain in the race to land the Colombian striker.
Duran’s Impressive Form At Villa Park
The 20-year-old has made an incredible start to this campaign after he put in a handful of productive displays for the West Midlands club in the final third. Duran has found the back of the net on six occasions in ten matches for the Villans this season in various competitions.
The Colombian talent has made all of his appearances off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 1.4 shots, 0.1 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has lacked quality when interchanging possession deep inside the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 71.4% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Villa Park will run out in the summer of 2030, so Barca would struggle to get a cut-price deal done for him next year.
Should Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick Go For Duran?
Duran is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has proven himself to be a deadly finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and can use his pace well to get in behind the opposition backline.
However, the Colombian sensation has to find a way to improve his link-up play in the final third. Plus, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form In Spanish football.
We can expect Duran to inject more firepower into Barcelona boss Hansi Flick’s attack. He has what it takes to serve as a good, rotational piece in the Catalan club’s squad in the coming years.
At 20, Duran has got a promising future ahead of him and could be a decent signing for Barca in the long run. With all things considered, Flick should think about going for a striker of his quality and potential as he would be an ideal, long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski at the Catalan club.
