In a recent report, Sport mentioned that Barcelona are in pole position to land Lille striker Jonathan David. It has been stated that the Catalan club are keeping a keen eye on the Canadian talent as they hope to sign him on a free transfer next summer.
David’s Good Run Of Form In French Football This Season
The 24-year-old has made a decent start to this campaign as he has put in a series of fruitful displays for Lille in the final third. David scored eight times and picked up a couple of assists in 12 appearances for the French this season in all competitions.
The Canadian talent has given a good account of himself for the French club up top based on his average of 2.0 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He has even been accurate when distributing possession deep inside the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 81.4% in the top tier of French football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will run out at the end of this campaign. Thus, Barcelona could potentially land him on a free transfer next summer.
Is David A Good Fit For Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick?
David can find a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in at goal and can be a consistent goal-getter for his team. He has got the vision to create the odd chance for others around him on the offensive end of the field and can even make some clever runs with the ball in and around the opponent’s penalty area.
However, it remains to be seen whether the French forward can maintain his good form in La Liga if Barcelona can manage to bring him to the Nou Camp on a free transfer next summer.
We can expect David to add more firepower to Barca head coach Hansi Flick’s frontline. At 24, he has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good fit for the Catalan club‘s needs in the long run. However, Flick would have to be patient with his progress before he can unlock the best out of him in Spanish football.
