In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Barcelona are in pole position to land Bayer 04 Leverkusen talent Jonathan Tah. It has been stated that the Catalan club are leading the race to acquire the services of the German centre-half next year.
Tah’s Impressive Form In German Football This Season
Tah has made a solid start to this campaign as he has put in a few dominant performances at the heart of Xabi Alonso’s defence. The German talent has made nine appearances for the German club this season, scoring one goal on all fronts.
The 28-year-old has been a rock at the back based on his average of 0.8 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has also been accurate when distributing the ball from inside his half after completing 95% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will run out at the end of this campaign. Hence, Barcelona could potentially sign him on a cut-price deal or wait until he becomes a free agent next summer.
Is Tah A Good Option For Barcelona?
Tah is a tough-tackling defender who can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can even play his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.95m, the German talent is a strong presence in the air as well. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in Spanish football if Barcelona manage to get him on board next year.
We can expect Tah to add more bite and steel to Barca boss Hansi Flick’s defence. He has what it takes to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the Nou Camp in the coming years.
At 28, Tah is playing in his prime which makes him a decent option for the Catalan club to consider this January or at the end of this campaign. He might even help Barcelona challenge for some major honours over the next few years. Thus, it makes sense for Flick to go all out to snap Tah up in 2025.
