In a recent report, Sport mentioned that Barcelona are eyeing a move for Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia. It has been stated that the Catalan club are hoping to land the Belgian youngster in the January transfer window.
Lavia’s Season At Stamford Bridge So Far
Lavia has found regular first-team starts hard to come by at the West London club this season but has served as a decent, rotational piece in Enzo Maresca’s squad. The 20-year-old has made just three appearances for the Blues during this campaign but has failed to score or create a goal for them across all competitions.
The Belgian talent has anchored the midfield with conviction based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 0.5 clearances per game in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing possession from midfield after making 95.9% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Chelsea will expire in the summer of 2030. Thus, it won’t be easy for the London club to get a deal done for Lavia on the cheap next year.
Should Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick Go For Lavia?
Lavia is a tough-tackling midfielder who can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He usually clears his lines when required and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.
The Belgian sensation is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so by his manager. However, he missed most of last season due to injury which makes him a risky option for the Catalan club to consider in 2025.
We can expect Lavia to add more bite and steel to Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick’s midfield. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting place at the Nou Camp in the coming years.
At 20, the future looks quite bright for Lavia as long as he continues to improve with each season. Thus, it makes sense for the Catalan giants to go for a player of his quality and potential when the transfer window reopens this January. However, Flick has to be patient with his progress before he can unlock the best out of the talented midfielder at the Spanish club.
