In a recent report, Sport claimed that Barcelona are eager to recruit Lille forward Jonathan David. It is believed that the Catalan club are keeping a keen eye on signing the Canadian striker next year.
David’s Decent Form In Ligue 1 This Season
David has made a good start to this campaign after he produced a run of productive displays as the focal point of Lille’s attack. The 24-year-old has found the back of the net seven times and secured a couple of assists in 11 matches for his current employers this season across all fronts.
The Canadian talent has led the line well for the French club and deserves credit for averaging 2.0 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He has even been accurate when distributing possession deep inside the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 81.4% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored)
David is under contract at the French club until the end of this campaign which could open the door for Barcelona to sign him on the cheap this January or on a free transfer next summer.
What Will David Bring To Barcelona?
David is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get some shots in at goal. He has got the eye to create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third and is usually quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty area.
The Canadian talent has proven himself to be a consistent goal-getter in French football. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in La Liga if Barcelona manage to lure him to the Nou Camp in 2025.
David would bring a lot of goals to Barca boss Hansi Flick’s attack. He is good enough to serve as an ideal, long-term success to Robert Lewandowski at the Catalan club. At 24, the best is yet to come from David as long as he continues to improve with each season. Plus, he might help Barcelona challenge across all fronts in the coming years. Therefore, Flick should consider moving in for him soon as he would be a terrific addition to their squad in the long run.
