Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that Aston Villa have set their sights on Atletico Madrid talent Samuel Lino. It is understood that the Villans are eyeing a move to lure the Brazilian wide player to Villa Park next year.
Lino’s Decent Form In Spain This Season
The 24-year-old has made a solid start to this season as he has put in a few impressive displays for Atletico Madrid in the final third. Lino has been involved in nine matches for Diego Simeone’s side during this campaign, picking up one assist across various competitions.
The Brazilian attacker has been a decent performer on the left flank based on his average of 2.1 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even interchanged possession with his teammates accurately in the final third after making 83.5% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
Lino’s current deal at the Spanish club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, the Villans would have to make a big offer if they are serious about recruiting Lino next year.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Bring Lino On Board?
Lino can make some clever runs with the ball in the opponent’s half and has got the vision to create some decent openings for others around him on the offensive end of the field. He can strike the ball with venom from long range but needs to find a way to be more productive in front of the opponent’s goal.
We can expect Lino to add more quality and depth to Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s frontline. He is good enough to compete for a regular starting spot at the West Midlands club in the coming years.
At 24, Lino has his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Villans to pursue next year. He will undoubtedly help Aston Villa challenge across all fronts in the future. Thus, it makes sense for Emery to try everything in his power to bring Lino on board this January or at the end of this campaign.
