In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey stated that Aston Villa are keeping tabs on Atletico Madrid midfielder Samuel Lino. It has been claimed that the Villans are monitoring the progress of the Brazilian talent ahead of a potential move for him next year.
Lino’s Impressive Form In La Liga This Season
Lino has made a decent start to this campaign after he produced a few impressive displays on the left side of Diego Simeone’s midfield. The Brazilian wide player has made eight appearances for his current employers this season, picking up one assist across all competitions.
The 24-year-old has been a good contributor on the left flank as he is averaging 2.1 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even distributed the ball well in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 83.5% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Spanish club will expire in the summer of 2027. Thus, Aston Villa would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting him next year.
What Will Lino Bring To Aston Villa?
Lino excels at creating some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He can shoot the ball with power from long range and can create the odd chance for others around him on the offensive end of the field.
The Brazilian sensation is a decent dribbler with the ball as well but needs to add more goals and assists to his game if he wants to taste success at the highest level. Plus, there are some concerns over whether he can cope with the physical style and high intensity of Premier League football if the Villans manage to land him in the future.
We can expect Lino to bring more quality and depth to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s match-day squad. He has what it takes to challenge for regular first-team football at Villa Park in the coming years.
At 24, the best is yet to come from Lino, so the West Midlands club would be wise to go all out to bring him to Villa Park this winter or at the end of this campaign.
