In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that West Ham United are locked in a three-way battle for AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze. It has been stated that the Hammers would have to challenge Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid in the race to land the Nigerian wide player next year.
Chukwueze’s Up And Down Season In Italian Football
Chukwueze endured an inconsistent campaign at San Siro recently but managed to put in a series of impressive displays for AC Milan in the final third. The Nigeria international found the back of the net three times and picked up three assists in 33 matches for the Italian club last season across all competitions.
The 25-year-old proved his worth at times on the right wing by averaging 1.2 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Serie A. He was even tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after completing 81.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Spanish club will expire in the summer of 2028. Thus, West Ham would have to launch a convincing offer if they are serious about landing Chukwueze next year.
Will Chukwueze Be A Good Choice For West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui?
Chukwueze is a good dribbler with the ball and can create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third. He can strike the ball with venom from long range and can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. However, the Nigerian sensation has to find a way to be more consistent in front of the opposition goal.
Chukwueze is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also function as a left-winger if asked to do so. We can expect him to add more firepower to West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui’s attack. He is good enough to challenge for regular first-team football at the London Stadium over the next few years.
At 25, Chukwueze has his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Hammers to pursue this January or at the end of this campaign. However, only time will tell whether he can adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of the Premier League.
