In a recent report, The Northern Echo offered an update on the future of Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden. It has been stated that the Magpies are open to parting ways with the English midfield ace.
Hayden’s Impressive Loan Spell At Queens Park Rangers
Hayden had a solid loan spell at Queens Park Rangers in the previous campaign when he put in a run of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 29-year-old featured in 17 matches for the English outfit last season but failed to score or create a goal for them in all competitions.
The English talent anchored the midfield really well for QPR as he averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 1.2 clearances per game in the EFL Championship. He was even excellent when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 86.9% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Tyneside club will expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, Eddie Howe has no immediate need to cash in on Hayden.
What Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Do With Regards To Hayden?
Hayden is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some crucial interceptions for his side inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and is a tidy passer as well. The English sensation is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a central defender if told to do so by his manager. However, he has to find a way to add some goals and assists to his game.
Standing at 1.87m, Hayden is a strong presence in the air. However, he is currently surplus to requirements at Newcastle United as he has fallen behind Sean Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Joe Willock and Sandro Tonali in Eddie Howe’s pecking order.
At 29, Hayden is still playing in his prime. Thus, it is only fair to the player if the Magpies allow him to leave soon. Plus, Howe can use the money generated from his potential sale to improve his squad in the January transfer window.
