In a recent report, Takvim claimed that Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies is generating interest from Turkey. It is understood that Galatasaray are showing interest in acquiring the services of the Welsh talent from the North London club before the Turkish transfer deadline.
Davies’ Impressive Form In North London
Davies served as an important member of Tottenham’s squad in the previous campaign when he put in a few solid displays for them on the defensive end of the pitch. The 31-year-old featured in 19 matches for Spurs last season, scoring one goal across all competitions.
The Wales international was a decent performer when defending inside his half based on his average of 1.4 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 2.1 clearances per game in the Premier League. He was even careful when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 91.3% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the London club will run out at the end of this campaign. Hence, Spurs need to cash in on the Welsh defender soon or else risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Let Davies Go?
Davies is a tough-tackling defender who can scan the danger well to secure the ball back for his side on the defensive third of the field. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the offensive.
The Welsh sensation can even play his way out from the back. He is primarily a central defender but can also fill in as a left-back if asked to do so. However, he is a player on the decline and is no longer guaranteed regular playing minutes in Angelos Postecoglu’s first team.
Davies is currently surplus to requirements at the North London club as he has fallen behind Cristian Romero, Radu Dragusin and Micky van de Ven in Postecoglu’s pecking order.
At 31, Davies has only got a few years left at the highest level. Thus, it is only fair to the player if Spurs let him go this month. Another option would be to keep hold of him until the end of this campaign when he could leave Tottenham as a free agent.
