In a recent report, Quotidiano di Puglia stated that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to move in for Lecce winger Patrick Dorgu. It has been claimed that Spurs are eager to get a deal done for the Danish wide player next year.
Dorgu’s Impressive Form In Serie A Last Season
Dorgu enjoyed a decent campaign at the Italian club as he put in a series of impressive performances on the left side of their attack. The 19-year-old scored two goals and secured one assist in 34 matches for Lecce last season across all competitions.
The Danish talent proved his value at times on the left flank based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 1.2 clearances, 0.6 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in Serie A. He was even accurate when distributing the ball after making 83.9% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Spurs to sign him on a cut-price deal next year.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Go For Dorgu?
Dorgu is a solid tackler of the ball and doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed. He can strike the ball well from long range and has got the vision to create a few decent chances for others around him in the final third.
The Danish sensation can even make some driving runs with the ball when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He is primarily a left-winger but can also operate as a left-back if asked to do so.
Dorgu would add more quality and depth to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s squad. He is good enough to challenge for a regular starting place at the North London club in the coming years.
At 19, Dorgu has the potential to be a future star in European football as long as he continues to improve with each year. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the physical style and high intensity of Premier League football. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of signing Dorgu, so Postecoglu would be wise to go for him next year.
