In a recent print edition, Sabah (via Sport Witness) claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are in the running to land Galatasaray winger Baris Alper Yilmaz. It has been stated that Spurs could face competition in the form of Brighton and Hove Albion in the race to land the Turkish wide player next year.
Yilmaz’s Impressive Run Of Form In Turkish Football This Season
Yilmaz has made a great start to this campaign as he has already put in a few eye-catching displays for Galatasaray in the final third. The Turkish talent has made nine appearances for his current employers this season, netting four goals and grabbing one assist across multiple competitions.
The 24-year-old was a good performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 2.7 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game in the Turkish Super Lig. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the wide areas, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 78.5% in the Turkish first division (stats via whoscored).
Yilmaz is under contract at Galatasaray until the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Spurs to land him on the cheap next year.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Ange Postecoglu Go For Yilmaz?
Yilmaz can create a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet. The Turkish sensation can chip in by scoring a handful of important goals for his team. He mainly operates as a right-sided wide player but can also function as a left-winger or as a centre-forward if needed.
We can expect Yilmaz to add more firepower to Ange Postecoglu’s attack. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming years.
At 24, the best is yet to come from Yilmaz, so Spurs would do well to get a deal over the line for him next year. However, there are some question marks over whether he would be able to make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
