In a recent report, journalist Rudy Galetti revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are facing stiff competition for Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres. It has been stated that Spurs would have to compete with Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to land the Swedish talent next year.
Gyokeres’ Impressive Form In Portuguese Football This Season
Gyokeres has made a great start to this campaign as he has already produced a series of eye-catching displays for Sporting in the final third. The Swedish talent has made eight appearances for the Portuguese club this season, finding the back of the net 11 times and earning three assists in multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old has led the line well and deserves credit for averaging 6.0 shots, 2.0 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after completing 77.7% of his attempted passes in the Portuguese top tier (stats via whoscored).
Gyokeres’ current contract at the Portuguese club will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for Tottenham to snap him up on the cheap next year.
Is Gyokeres A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Ange Postecoglu?
Gyokeres can create some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The Swedish talent has proven himself to be a prolific goal-scorer in Portuguese football. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League if Tottenham manage to get a deal done for him next year.
Gyokeres will add more firepower to Ange Postecoglu’s frontline. He is more than capable of challenging Dominic Solanke for a regular first-team place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming years.
At 26, Gyokeres has his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent option for the North London club to pursue this January or at the end of this season. He might even help Spurs challenge for some major trophies over the next few years. Thus, Postecoglu would be wise to go all out to snap him up in 2025.
