In a recent tweet, journalist Graeme Bailey revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs hoping to sign Red Bull Salzburg defender Samson Baidoo. It has been stated that Spurs are eyeing a move to land the Austrian centre-back.
Baidoo’s Impressive Form In Austrian Football
Baidoo had a decent campaign at the Austrian club recently as he put in a run of impressive displays for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The 20-year-old scored two goals and picked up one assist in 23 matches for RB Salzburg last season on all fronts.
The talented defender caught the eye at times for the Austrian outfit by averaging 1.8 tackles and 2.2 clearances per game in the UEFA Champions League. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from the back after making 81.1% of his attempted passes in European football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at RB Salzburg will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for Spurs to get a deal done for him next year.
Is Baidoo A Good Fit For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Ange Postecoglu?
Baidoo is a good tackler of the ball and usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot. He is a tidy passer of the ball as well but is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level.
Standing at 1.90m, the Austrian youngster is a strong presence in the air as well. Hence, Tottenham would do well to snap him up next year. However, Ange Postecoglu would have to be patient with his progress before he can unlock the best out of him at the North London club.
We can expect Baidoo to add more bite and steel to Postecoglu’s defence. He is good enough to serve as a good, rotational piece in Tottenham‘s squad. At 20, Baidoo has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, he would be a great fit for the London club’s needs in the long run. However, only time will tell whether Baidoo can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
