In a recent report, The Athletic stated that Newcastle United remain keen on signing Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi this January. It has been revealed that the Magpies are still eager to acquire the services of the English defender in the winter transfer window.
Guehi’s Impressive Form At Selhurst Park Last Season
Guehi enjoyed a solid campaign at the London club recently as he was responsible for putting in a lot of impressive displays at the heart of their backline. The 24-year-old was involved in 29 matches for the Eagles last season, picking up one assist in multiple competitions.
The English talent was a rock at the back and deserves a lot of credit for averaging 1.1 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from inside his half after completing 87.2% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Crystal Palace will expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Magpies to sign him on a cut-price deal in this January transfer period.
Will Guehi Be A Dream Option For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe This January?
Guehi is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to make some crucial interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and is an accurate passer as well when he is playing with confidence on the pitch.
The English defensive ace has already got a lot of experience in Premier League football and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Newcastle if Eddie Howe can find a way to get him on board this summer.
We can expect Guehi to bring more bite and steel to the Tyneside club‘s backline. He is good enough to earn a regular starting spot at St. James’ Park in the coming years. At 24, Guehi has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a dream option for the Magpies to consider this January. He has what it takes to help Newcastle compete across all fronts in the future.
