In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed that Newcastle United are eyeing a January move for Nottingham Forest ace Anthony Elanga. It has been stated that the Magpies are eager to acquire the services of the Swedish playmaker this winter.
Elanga’s Good Run Of Form At The City Ground Last Season
The 22-year-old had a decent campaign at Nottingham Forest recently after he produced a run of impressive performances for them in the Premier League. Elanga netted five goals and secured nine assists in 39 appearances for the Midlands club last season across multiple competitions.
The Swedish talent was a consistent performer in the final third as he averaged 1.5 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He even distributed the ball accurately in the opposition half based on his pass completion rate of 75.3% in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Elanga’s current deal at Nottingham will expire in the summer of 2028 which would make it difficult for the Magpies to sign him on the cheap in the January transfer window.
Will Elanga Be A Decent Choice For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Elanga can make some clever runs with the ball in the final third and can create some meaningful chances for his teammates up top. He can strike the ball with power and precision from long range.
The Swedish sensation can even contribute by scoring and creating a handful of goals for his team. He mainly plays as a right-winger but can also function as a left-sided wide player or as a striker if told to do so by his manager.
Elanga would inject more quality and depth into Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe’s attack. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Tyneside club in the coming years. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at St. James’ Park if Howe can devise a way to get him on board this January.
At 22, Elanga has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, he would be a great choice for the Magpies to pursue in the long run.
