Manchester United were linked to Atalanta midfielder Ederson but didn’t make any official move this summer. While many thought that they had dropped the idea of pursuing the Brazilian, they were wrong. The Premier League club are still in the race, as revealed TNT Sports in Brazil.
Ederson has been rock solid for Atalanta
After plying his trade at multiple clubs, Ederson joined Atalanta in the summer of 2022. In a short time, he managed to impress everyone with his talent. His consistent performances helped him cement his spot in the starting lineup.
Ederson featured in 53 games last season, netting seven goals and assisting once. He averaged 2.3 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, and 1.3 clearances per game (stats via whoscored). He helped Atalanta lift the Europe League and qualify for the Champions Trophy.
The Brazilian is a box-to-box midfielder and likes to keep things simple. He is good at reading the game and makes solid defensive contributions. He is also a good carrier of the ball and likes to make progressive passes to initiate attacks.
Manchester United are still on for Ederson
Manchester United were linked to Ederson as they needed more quality in the middle of the park. However, they decided to sign Manuel Ugarte from PSG. Once that deal was done, they showed interest in the Atalanta’s midfielder but very little time was left in the summer window.
While many had the impression that the Red Devils might not return, it’s completely opposite. The English giant still has their eyes set on the 25-year-old Brazilian. They might make an attempt to sign him in the 2025 summer window.
Atalanta would be open to selling the hot property should a lucrative offer arrive. On the player’s part, Ederson has already shown interest in playing in the English league. Joining the Old Trafford would be an exciting move for him but he will have to access other options too before making a decision.
