Manchester United were linked with Benjamin Sesko in recent months but didn’t opt for him this summer. While many speculated that the English side might not need the Slovenian anymore, the report coming in from Give Me Sport states otherwise.
Benjamin Sesko is an exciting talent
Benjamin Sesko joined Red Bull Salzburg at the age of 16 and went on to make his professional debut in 2021. However, his breakthrough campaign came last season, where he ended up scoring 18 goals and providing two assists in 42 games.
Sesko averaged 1.5 shots, 0.4 key passes, and 0.5 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored). Talking about the present, he is one of the bright prospects in European football. His impressive progress have even caught the eyes of some major clubs.
The Slovenian is known for his sheet pace, sound techniques, and aerial dominance. He can hold onto the ball and link up with his teammates. He is also versatile to play as an attacking midfielder and is a selfless striker with strong finishing skills.
Do Manchester United need another striker?
Manchester United’s interest in Benjamin Sesko is hard to understand. They already had Rasmus Hojlund for the striker role and brought Joshua Zirkzee in the summer. Now with two quality strikers already in the squad, there’s no point in investing in another striker.
Though Sesko is an exciting talent with a lot of potential, it will be hard to get the best out of him with limited game time. With no prior Premier League experience, he might even take some extra time to settle in well in Erik ten Hag’s setup.
Sesko’s pursuit would only make sense if the Red Devils lose any of their strikers. As the 21-year-old has a long-term contract at Red Bull Salzburg, signing him will cost a handsome amount. It will be better if Manchester United invest that sum in other areas to improve their squad for now.
