According to Fichajes, Manchester United are considering signing Brighton skipper Lewis Dunk in the 2025 summer transfer window. The Premier League club want to add experience to their backline and sees the veteran as a perfect fit.
Lewis Dunk is Brighton’s skipper
Lewis Dunk is a product of Brighton & Hove Albion Academy. He made his senior team debut in 2010 and has been associated with them since then. He has been a regular starter in the side, indicating his consistency over the past decade.
Dunk played an integral role last season for the English club. He featured in 43 games, netting four goals and providing an assist. He averaged 1 tackle, 0.9 interceptions, and 2.7 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The English defender is versatile enough to play at any position in the defence. He reads the game well and positions himself nicely to block incoming shots or win the possession back. He remains calm with the ball and also marks an aerial dominance.
Why does Manchester United want Lewis Dunk?
Manchester United strengthened their backline with the signings of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui this summer. However, they still miss the experience needed especially after the departure of Raphael Varane.
Hence, to fill that gap, the Red Devils are considering bringing Lewis Dunk next summer. The experienced campaigner’s presence will help the youngsters in the unit. His leadership skills will also come in handy at crucial stages.
The 32-year-old’s contract with Brighton runs until 2026. Manchester United could attempt bringing him after a relatively lower price. However, it remains to be seen whether the player would like to join Old Trafford at the latter stage of his career or not. The factor of game time might come as a hindrance to the transfer.
