According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United are considering signing Athletic Club goalkeeper Unai Simon next summer. The Premier League club isn’t happy with Andre Onana’s performances and is eyeing the veteran as a fitting replacement.
Unai Simon is an established name
Unai Simon arrived at Atheltic Club from CD Aurrera de Vitoria in the year 2011. He made his senior team debut in 2018 and has been their first-choice goalkeeper since then. He is a pivotal figure at the club backed by his solid performances over the years.
Simon featured in 36 games last season and managed to keep 18 clean sheets while leaking 33 goals. He is also a primary goalkeeper for Spain’s national side. He recently helped his country lift the Euro 2024 title.
The Spanish goalkeeper is known for his quick reflexes and strong hands. He doesn’t lose his concentration between the sticks and commands his area really well. With great penalty-saving ability and passing accuracy, he is a top-notch pick.
Unai Simon can be a good addition for Manchester United
Manchester United brought Andre Onana last summer from Inter Milan. However, the transfer hasn’t paid off as the goalkeeper has been error-prone and below-average. Though the club have Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton at their disposal, the management doesn’t believe they can be the primary goalkeeper.
Hence, the Red Devils are eyeing a move for Unai Simon next summer. Simon is a proven performer with years of experience. His addition to the unit will provide solidity in the goal and his passing abilities will be perfect for Erik ten Hag’s system.
It remains to be seen if the 28-year-old shot-stopper would be keen on moving to Old Trafford or not. Athletic Club will try to hold their hot property but a lucrative deal will tempt them to accept the offer. Only time will tell what will happen about this story.
