As reported by Fichajes, Manchester United are considering making a late move for Girona left-back Miguel Gutierrez. The Premier League club want to ensure enough depth in their defensive pack with the pursuit of the youngster.
Miguel Gutierrez has done well for Girona
Miguel Gutierrez came through the ranks of Real Madrid but failed to establish himself there. As a result, he moved to Girona in the summer of 2022 in search of game-time. The move surely helped him develop his game further and emerge as an exciting talent.
Gutierrez helped the Spanish side finish third in the La Liga last season. He featured in 40 games and netted two goals apart from providing nine assists. He averaged 0.8 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, and 1.6 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The Spanish defender is a modern-era full-back who can play in the midfield or act like a winger. He is an intelligent player who knows where to position himself. He is press-resistant and can make line-breaking passes. On the defensive front, the player has improved immensely.
Should Miguel Gutierrez join Manchester United?
Manchester United suffered hugely due to the injuries sustained by Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia last season. Their absence forced Erik ten Hag to play other players in an unnatural position. Though they have brought Noussair Mazraoui this summer, the previous two cannot be trusted due to their fitness issues.
Hence, the Red Devils are considering signing Miguel Gutierrez before the summer window closes. His arrival will act as an extra layer of cover for the concerned role. As he is extremely gifted and versatile, he will also add a lot of value to the squad.
Talking from Gutierrez’s point of view, joining Old Trafford might not be the best move at this stage. He would want to play as much as possible and not be a secondary choice. As Girona are set to play in the Champions League, he can have a better impact by staying at the Spanish club.
