In a recent report, journalists Danny Rust and Dean Jones claimed that Manchester City are hoping to land Bayern Munich ace Joshua Kimmich next summer. It has been revealed that the Mancunian club are eyeing a move to bring the Germany international to the Etihad Stadium at the end of this campaign.
Kimmich’s Impressive Form In German Football
Kimmich had a solid campaign at the Bavarian club as he produced a string of impressive displays on the right side of their defence. The 29-year-old scored two times and secured ten assists in 43 matches for Bayern Munich last season in various competitions.
The German talent proved his worth as a consistent performer by averaging 1.6 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 0.9 shots and 2.6 key passes per game in the Bundesliga. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from the back after making 91.3% of his attempted passes in the German top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Allianz Arena will run out at the end of this campaign which could open the door for Man City to sign him on a free transfer next year.
Is Kimmich A Good Fit For Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola?
Kimmich is a good tackler of the ball and can earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can also create some inviting chances for his teammates up top.
The German talent can even strike the ball with venom from long range. Kimmich is primarily a central midfielder but can also operate as a right-back or as a right-sided wide player if told to do so. However, there are some question marks over whether he would be able to make a smooth transition to life in England.
Kimmich would bring more quality to Man City boss Pep Guardiola‘s midfield. He is good enough to help the Mancunian giants compete for a lot of major honours over the next few years.
At 29, Kimmich is playing at the top of his game and has got less than a year left to run in his Bayern Munich contract. Thus, he would be a great fit for Man City‘s needs next summer, so Guardiola would be wise to offer him a chance to shine at the Etihad Stadium.
