As reported by The Sun, Liverpool have joined the race for Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson. The Reds want to sign the defender next summer but will have to beat Manchester United as they are also keen on getting the deal done.
Antonee Robinson’s rising stakes
Antonee Robinson moved to Fulham in the summer of 2020 after Wigan Atletic’s relegation from the championship. The move turned out to be fruitful as the player emerged as a reliable name, adding a lot of value to Fulham’s side.
Backed with his impressive performances, Robinson earned a fixed spot in the starting lineup. He featured in 44 games last season and provided seven assists. He averaged 2.5 tackles, 2.2 interceptions, and 2.9 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The American left-back is well-equipped to operate in the midfield or on the left wing. He is excellent at reading the game and making ball interceptions. Moreover, he is also gifted with excellent dribbling and passing techniques.
Liverpool want to add Antonee Robinson to their squad
Liverpool already have Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas at their disposal for the left-back role. However, Robertson is on the wrong side of 30 and the latter is not good enough to start every week. Hence, the club wants to add more depth to the position.
The Reds believe Antonee Robinson could be a great addition. The player has already proven himself in the Premier League and has all the qualities to play for a big club like Liverpool. He could provide a backup for Robertson and take up the primary role once the Scottish defender departs from Anfield.
However, Liverpool will have to beat Manchester United in the race, which is also keeping tabs on the players. Apart from that, it remains to be seen if the 27-year-old is willing to sacrifice his game time or not to join Arne Slot’s side.
