As reported by CaughtOffside, Liverpool have retained their interest in Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio. The Premier League club is a fan of the player and could make an official move in the 2025 summer window to sign him.
Goncalo Inacio has been impressive for Sporting CP
Goncalo Inacio came through the ranks of Sporting CP Academy. He made his senior team debut in 2020 and since then, he has been climbing up the ladders. He has established himself as a regular feature on the team sheet.
Inacio was featured in 49 games last season, scoring four goals and providing an assist. He averaged 1.5 tackles, 1 interception, and 2.1 clearances per game (stats via whoscored). He played an instrumental role in helping the Portuguese side win the domestic league last year.
The Portuguese defender mainly plays as a centre-back but can also operate as a left-back or in the midfield. He is a technically sound player with great ball-playing abilities. He remains calm under pressure, showcasing his high confidence on the field.
High price tag for Goncalo Inacio
Liverpool were linked to Goncalo Inacio this summer but they decided against signing him. However, they might be tempted to go after him next season, especially after the departure of Joel Matip. The club need a left-footed defender to fill the gap.
Inacio has already shown that he has all the qualities required to succeed at the highest level. He can serve at the Anfield for many years to come. As Virgil van Dijk is on the wrong side of the 30, he needs to be replaced soon by the management.
The only thing that might hinder a move is the price tag. Reportedly, Sporting CP aren’t ready to let go of the player for anything less than a €60 million release clause. Inacio is tied until 2027 with the Portuguese club and hence, Liverpool will have to negotiate well if they wish to acquire his services.
