According to Football Insider, Liverpool have dropped their interest in signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The Premier League club aren’t going to go after him in the winter or the next summer transfer window.
Martin Zubimendi is an established name
Martin Zubimendi came through the ranks of Real Sociedad Academy and made his senior team debut in 2016. Since then, he has been climbing up the ladders and growing his reputation. Fair to say that he has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world at present.
Zubimendi featured in 45 games last season, netting four goals and providing an assist. He averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, and 1.7 clearances per game (stats via whoscored). His impressive displays attracted interest from multiple clubs.
The Spanish midfielder is very technical and calm on the field. He is excellent at distributing the possession and doesn’t shy away from sending through balls. On the defensive front, he times his tackles well and marks an aerial dominance.
Martin Zubimendi is no longer wanted by Liverpool
Liverpool wanted a defensive midfielder badly in the summer and had Martin Zubimendi as their priority. While many believed the player to sign a new contract at Real Sociedad, the English giants were confident about getting a deal at the end.
However, Zubimendi decided against joining Anfield and went on to extend his contract at his boyhood club. This left the Reds will no time to opt for another option in the market. While some reports state that they might approach the player again in the upcoming window, Football Insider rubishes the reports.
It states that Liverpool are no longer running behind the 25-year-old. It makes sense as there’s no way the player will leave his club unless a dispute arises. It would be wise for Arne Slot‘s side to find another name and acquire him.
