In a recent report, journalist Rudy Galetti claimed that Liverpool are facing stiff competition for Lecce winger Patrick Dorgu. It has been claimed that the Reds would have to challenge Chelsea, Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and a few other clubs from Italy and Germany in the race to land the Danish wide player next year.
Dorgu’s Recent Rise In Italian Football
Dorgu enjoyed a decent campaign at the Italian club as he put in a series of eye-catching displays for them on the left flank. The 19-year-old featured in 34 matches for Lecce last season, finding the back of the net twice and picking up one assist in multiple competitions.
The Danish talent proved his worth at times on the left wing and did well to average 1.3 tackles, 1.2 clearances, 0.6 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in Serie A football. He was even tidy when distributing the ball after making 83.9% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for the Reds to sign him on the cheap next year.
Should Liverpool Boss Arne Slot Go For Dorgu?
Dorgu loves a tackle and usually clears the danger when needed. He can shoot the ball well from long range and can engineer the odd chance for his teammates up top. The Danish talent is primarily a left-winger but was often used as a left-back last season. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level.
Dorgu is already good enough to serve as a good, rotational piece in Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s squad. At 19, he has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, it makes sense for the Reds to try and go for a player of his potential next year.
However, there are some question marks over whether Dorgu would be able to adjust to the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if the Merseyside club can find a way to get a deal over the line for him.
